Most of these pictures were taken in the Red Sea, diving the reefs near Hurghada, Egypt. A few others, during a stay at Inhaca island near Maputo, Mozambique. Apart from some endemic ones, many of the Red Sea species can be encountered near Inhaca too. But that's where the resemblance of these far-apart locations ends. Habitat and certainly the dive-conditions are highly different. While Hurghada has a dive-centre at every streetcorner, at Inhaca we were lucky when the ocean was calm enough for the one and only boat to take us diving (if it wasn't used for transport to and from the mainland). Clicking on a thumbnail brings you to the Red Sea / Indian ocean gallery. The gallery pages show the full common English and scientific names as well as the maximum size of the subject. |
